Building Homes with Habitat for Humanity

On Tuesday, May 23, a group of Norfolk Kitchen & Bath employees spent the day volunteering at a local South Shore Habitat for Humanity build in Hingham, MA.

Norfolk’s full day of volunteer work included the installation of Norfolk-supplied kitchen cabinetry, painting walls, nailing baseboard trim, among other light carpentry tasks with aid from the general contractor. This was a terrific opportunity for Norfolk employees to not only give back to their community, but to also spend a day in the field understanding the installation side of kitchen & bath remodeling.

The goal of each Habitat for Humanity project is to reward deserving, low to moderate income families with an easier path to homeownership. Once selected, each family enters Habitat’s “ownership program”, which includes hours of “sweat equity” building their home or other Habitat homes, along with education on finances, mortgages, upkeep and more. At the end of the program, the family is given the keys to their house with an affordable mortgage that does not exceed 30% of their gross income.1 This Habitat for Humanity project included two houses for families in the program.
