With that in mind, the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) has compiled a list of the top kitchen design trends, based on input from designers, architects, contractors, manufacturers, & more industry experts.
Kitchen Design Trend 1: Nature-Inspired Color Schemes
Nature-inspired themes drive the majority of 2022 kitchen design trends. While white & gray remain popular neutral cabinet colors, the days of all-white or all-gray kitchens are numbered, making way for warmer, nature-inspired hues, such as blue, green, and light to medium wood tones. Kitchen designers are already seeing many two-toned kitchens featuring different combination of these trendy color options.
When it comes to hardware & fixtures, expect a shift towards matte & brushed finishes, such as brushed brass (gold) or matte black.
2. A Multi-Functional Kitchen Design
A continued trend from previous years, which has only been reinforced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is the desire for the kitchen to be used as a multipurpose space, rather than just for food prep. To make things easier to clean properly, we expect customers to trend towards a simpler door style (think: shaker or slab panel), touch-free fixtures, and non-porous countertops like quartz or porcelain.
