History

Norfolk Kitchen and Bath’s story started in 1934 when Norfolk Hardware and Home Center was founded By Lena and Benjamin Rosen.

Lena and Benjamin Rosen had immigrated to this country in the early 1900’s. After settling in the Mattapan area of Boston, Ben began a career as a plumber installing water heaters. He purchased plumbing fittings from local hardware stores. His entrepreneurial spirit was strong and he began to think about the possibilities of buying the plumbing fittings and pipe from the manufacturer. He and Lena opened a small hardware store on Norfolk St. in Mattapan in 1934 and called the store, Norfolk Hardware.

Gradually over the years, they added additional products to the store. Most of the products and categories they began to sell actually were the result of their customers wanting them to carry additional products. Over time, customers wanted paint, so they added a paint department. Additional categories were added just like that.

About 20 years ago, Norfolk Hardware customers asked us to start carrying kitchen cabinets and countertops. These customers were apartment buildings and property management customers looking for something basic. With that request, we were launched into the kitchen cabinet business.

Today, Norfolk Hardware and Home Center and Norfolk Kitchen and Bath is one of New England’s largest and fastest growing independent kitchen and bath company. We currently carry a wide selection of kitchen cabinets, countertops, hardware, and sinks. Of course, that may change as our great customers request something new.

The Norfolk companies are still family owned and operated. Today, Stewart Rosen is at the helm and has helped us grow exponentially since coming into the business in 1984. His son Benjamin Rosen, named after his great grandfather Benjamin Rosen who founded the company, is also in the business. If history has a way of repeating itself, Norfolk has a lot more growth in store.
